WHAT IS LAMDA?

Responsive image
LAMDA or the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art is one of the UK’s oldest and most respected awarding organisations, offering examinations in communications and the performing arts for over 130 years.

These exams are designed to help members develop the skills necessary to communicate dramatic text to an audience, including interpretative skills, technical skills and knowledge of the performance process. All these skills enable members to grow in vocal and physical confidence, increase their self-expression and learn to work creatively with others.

The LAMDA qualifications are globally recognised and respected by schools and universities. For upper secondary school students, passing the Level 3 Examinations are well recognised and can be counted towards the UCAS point system when applying to universities in the UK.

Faust is a certified center for the LAMDA Examinations (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art). Our LAMDA Workshops will provide comprehensive training to children aged 8 to 18 who are interested in taking the LAMDA examinations. Workshops will provide training in communications and dramatic performance through monologues, empowering students to deliver confident and engaging individual performances.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Semester Two runs from Tuesday January 31st or Wednesday February 1st, to the Exam Date, held in mid-May 2023 (12 weeks + Exam). Focus will be on exam preparation and practice leading up to the LAMDA examinations, scheduled to be held in mid-May 2023.

Each Semester, students are entered for a graded examination depending on their ability. During this time, each child works on two performance pieces, each from a different play. They learn their two monologues and then dedicate the rest of their time applying all of the knowledge they gained to each of their performances. Along the way, our leaders are there to help guide and encourage each student to bring their pieces to life in their own unique way whilst paying close attention to the LAMDA criteria.

A mock exam is arranged at least one week before the actual exam, which will take place towards the end of each semester.

Please Note
Members who join are required to have previous experience with acting examinations (LAMDA, Trinity, RADA, Hong Kong Speech Festival etc.), with proof of certification required. For LAMDA courses, there are higher expectations of personal study and rehearsal at home by participating students this term, Achieving a high mark is dependent on this as there will be no additional workshops. Please do not register if participating students do not have enough support in this area at home. While this is not a guarantee that they will achieve a high mark, it is the collective experience of the LAMDA teachers that rehearsals at home in between sessions make a significant difference and will increase students’ ownership and engagement with this course and qualification.

Newcomers, or those who have not done LAMDA with Faust previously, will be assessed for exam suitability.

This programme is not designed to teach students English. A fluency in English is required.

Current Arrangements due to COVID:
Workshops will run in person. Should the government guidelines restrict in-person workshops during this period, we will work online. While we prefer in-person workshops, the LAMDA examinations will be held remotely, so this procedure is a great opportunity for members to practise without masks and in a similar environment to the exams.
